Peter Lynch is a graduate of the Canberra School of Music (per­form­ance), Mon­ash Uni­versity (music­ology) and The University of Melbourne (edu­cational admin­istration).

He was first at­tracted to the guitar through the phenomenon that was 'The Beatles'. Initially, he studied in Geelong with Bernard Stahl and then in Melbourne with Sadie Bishop and Susan Ellis. He continued his studies at the Canberra School of Music with Sadie Bishop, graduating in 1974 and then in London, studying with John Mills, John Duarte and Julian Byzantine.

An examiner for the Australian Music Examinations Board since 1976, he has examined and adjudicated throughout Victoria and New South Wales, and as far afield as Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and New Zealand.

In addition to several commercially released recordings and many ABC studio recordings and broadcasts, Peter has given solo and ensemble recitals at numerous festivals including Melbourne International Festival of Organ and Harpsichord, Castlemaine State Festival, Music in the Round, Melbourne International Guitar Festival and Darwin International Guitar Festival.

Peter Lynch was for many years a lecturer in guitar at the Victorian College of the Arts and The University of Melbourne and was, from 1993 to 1998, Academic Co-ordinator at the Melba Memorial Conservatorium. He served as Director of Murray Conservatorium in Albury from 1999 to 2008.

In 2009, he relocated to Tasmania where he is now pursuing his research interests, performance opportunities, examining, and teaching both privately and at the Conservatorium of Music.
