LEATHAM STUDIOS - MUSIC SCHOOL

Private music lessons in the Albury area

About our studio

Leathm Music Studios

Welcome to Leatham Studios. We are located at Table Top, 15km north of Albury near the Hume Highway, only 10 minutes drive from Albury and close to Thurgoona, Lavington or Jindera.

Students of all ages most welcome, whether you have played before or are just starting your music studies. Adult beginners welcome.

Our teachers are fully qualified and experienced in teaching children from grades 1 to 12 in NSW and Victorian schools and have current NSW Working With Children Checks.

We can provide a high quality, carefully planned course of private music tuition for you or your children. Consider learning music together with shared lessons for family members. Parent participation is most productive when small children are involved.

Brass Lessons

The cornet, trumpet or trombone are a relatively easy instruments to play to an intermediate standard. Whether as a solo player or performing at school or with a community band, brass playing is great fun. There are many instruments to choose from all with very similar playing techniques. If you want to "Blow your own trumpet!" then enquire now about brass lessons.

Piano Lessons

For piano students we provide the chance for you to learn on a full sized concert grand, something we are sure will inspire and delight you. In a world of cheap digital imitations the sound of a concert hall quality instrument is a revelation.

The opportunity to create beautiful and powerful music on a full sized instrument from the very first lesson is exceptionally rare. Such instruments are usually available only for students undertaking the highest University level studies. We have two music rooms with a grand piano in each - a 19th century Model A Hamburg Steinway and a 21st century Australian made Stuart & Sons.

Violin / Viola Lessons

Students from age six to adult are accepted. For younger players we can supply instruments in fractional sizes to suit each child's needs.

Tution is a combination of traditional Westen European training with additional Suzuki and Paul Rolland elements for beginners. This may include some playing without music and a whole-body approach to string playing that allows students to produce a more relaxed and beautiful sound.

Recorder Lessons

For recorder players we can guide you into a world of sophisticated performance that is very far removed from the simple toy sounds usually associated with this instrument in schools. In addition to being an inexpensive way to develop music reading skills, students can explore a 500 year history of the most charming and accessible music ever written.

Many players having begun recorder lessons as an introductory instrument find themselves continuing at an advanced level, playing music from Bach to the present day on beautifully hand-crafted wooden instruments.

Parental involvement

At Leatham Music we prefer parents to attend all lessons whenever possible, especially for children under twelve. The support you show for your child's music activities and the assistance you can then provide at home during playing sessions are vital to our music education program. If you are not a musician yourself please consider learning either at shared lessons or as an independent student.
